Custom cake boxes, sized to your cake

A cake box has one job: get the cake home without the sides touching the frosting. Stock boxes come in a handful of sizes, so most bakers either squeeze a cake into a box that is too tight or let it slide around in one that is too big.

Our cake box is a straight tuck end carton drawn by the dieline engine at the exact inside size you type, so a 4 inch bento cake and a 6 inch chiffon each get a box made for them. Print your logo all over it, or order it plain.

Flat blank sizes are computed by the Makan Box dieline engine at a 0.35 mm board and are recomputed for the board you choose. Sizes marked on request are outside what this structure can be drawn at today, or larger than a standard 72 x 102 cm press sheet; we quote those by hand.

Both tuck flaps open from the front panel, so the box opens wide from the top and the lid sits flat. Good for cakes and anything lifted out from above.

Minimum order, food safety, lead time, samples and dielines. Anything that depends on the print run is confirmed with your quote.

What size box does a 6 inch cake need?
Allow about 15 mm of clearance on each side for the cake board and fingers, so a 6 inch (15 cm) cake usually goes in a box about 180 x 180 mm inside. Height depends on the cake and any toppers; 130 mm suits most layer cakes. Type your own numbers in the configurator if your cakes run taller.
Can I get a cake box with a window?
Window patching is on request. Send the size and where you want the window and we will tell you what the print partner can do.
What is the minimum order?
On request. Every box is made to order at your size and small batches are welcome. The firm minimum depends on the box, the board and the print run, and comes with your quote.
Is the packaging food safe?
Board grades and food-contact documentation come from the print partner’s board specification, and are on request. Tell us what touches the box (dry, oily or moist food) when you ask for a quote so we can match the board, or plan a liner.
What is the lead time?
On request. It is confirmed with your quote and counted from the day you approve the proof.
Can I get a sample first?
Samples are on request. Ask for one when you request a quote and we will tell you what is possible for your size and board.
Do I get a dieline?
Every box is drawn by our dieline engine at your exact inside size and board thickness, so there is no stock template to adapt. You see the flat dieline and a 3D fold in the configurator, production files (PDF, DXF and SVG) are generated from your order, and a dieline file for your own designer is available on request.
Do you make more than boxes?
Yes. The Makan Box range also covers paper cups, kraft paper bags, stand-up pouches, labels and stickers, noodle boxes, bento trays, sauce sachets and tingkat tins. Boxes are sized and drawn online; the rest of the range is quoted on request.
How do I order?
Request a quote with the size and quantity you need, or size the box yourself in the configurator first. A person replies with a firm price, minimum and lead time for your run.
